Our project ‘growing up in Europe’ consists in an extensive study of European youth today: their culture(s) between tradtion and globalisation, their interests, habits and behaviours in the face of the adults’ world, fears and hopes concerning the future (environment, war and peace...). The programme we have planned should last for three years. In the first year, we have worked on the roots of the contemporary youths’ culture, that is to say the 1960s and 70s youths’ culture. In september 2004, after sending informations to the different partners presenting the schools, cities, regions, and education systems, the pupils have elaborated a questionnaire on the 1960s-70s youth, and interviewed the pupils’ parents. The questionnaire were different in each school, and while counting of the results, each school had to choose 3 to 4 major themes
From december to April, each school had to work on the three themes according to its own rythm and method. The partners were kept informed of each other’s evolution by mail and chat. In the same time, songs from the 1960s-70s have been studied by each partner and 3 had to be sung by the pupils, and then recorded and sent to the Polish partners who have recorded a CD with all the songs. Durig the project meeting in Uzerche in May 2005, each school presented its research results. Pupils had to work in group on each topic to study common points and differencies between countries. Turkey had to write a common synthesis on the events, Italy on fashion, Poland on music.
