Yalova hot springs are located to the south of the Sea of Marmara , 11 km southwest of the town of Yalova in a wonderfully green setting. There is a good road between Istanbul - Yalova and Bursa - Yalova and car and passenger ferries have a regular schedule between Istanbul - Yalova (50 minutes journey).

The Yalova hot springs have a natural water outlet, flowing at a rate of 15 liters per second with the potential capacity of 1,651 person/day/bath and 1651 beds on the basis of 600 liters per person l day l bath.

On 17th August 1999 , at 03:02 AM , a devastating earthquake (7.4 Richter scale) struck the city when people were asleep and killed thousands of citizens leaving more than 50.000 homeless. Izmit , Adapazari , Bursa , Bolu and Istanbul are amongst other provinces damaged by this quake .
Surroundings
Yalova is the Sea of Marmara port for Bursa , the place to embark or debark an Istanbul ferry ( map ). It's also the place you catch a minibus to Iznik ( Nicaea ) or make your way to the early Ottoman town of Sögüt.
Yalova (YAH-loh-vah, pop. 60,000) suffered terribly in the violent earthquake of August 17, 1999 . Many buildings were destroyed and many lives lost. If you see a lot of new buildings, that's why.
The dock for passenger ferries to and from Istanbul 's Yenikapi Ferry Terminal is right in the center of town. The dock for car ferries (hizli feribot) to the same place is a 10-minute walk eastward. See Sea of Marmara ferries for details. Both boats take about an hour to make the voyage between Yalova and Istanbul .
(There are also older, traditional ferries which are much slower (2.5 hours), but very pleasant because you can sit outside on deck . If you're in no hurry, try it. It's even cheaper!)
Minibuses depart from near the passenger ferry dock about every half hour to take people to Iznik and Bursa .
The thermal spa of Termal , in use since Roman times (at least) is 12 km (8 miles) southwest of Yalova. Get there by minibus and taxi .
