Vår region : SMÅLAND

Our region is called Småland and is known as "Glas riket" which means "the land of glass". It was here the Swedish people learned how to melt sand and then make glass out of it. Some of these places where you can test blowing glas are for example Orrefors and Kosta. This is probably the biggest tourist attraction in our area and people all over Europé come here to buy the famous hand made crystal glass. The nature on the island Öland is very beautiful.

Vår stad : Kalmar

Kalmar is situated in the south-east of Sweden. It is a small town with a population of 60 000 inhabitants.

The town lies by the sea Kalmarsund. The bridge over to Öland (the second biggest island in Sweden) unite Kalmar with Öland. We do have an airport "Kalmar Airport" and a trainstation.

The local gouvernment of Kalmar profiles itself as an "environmental conservationing town". One of the goals is to get rid of all fossil fuel in the end of 2030. They also want to spread the knowledge of pollution to the citizens of Kalmar. All the citizens have the possibilities to sort all their rubbish in differents deposits.

Vasaskolan

”Vasaskolan” means ”The school of Vasa”. Gustav Vasa was a swedish king in the 16th century. It was founded in the early 20th century. During this time, the girls and the boys were in separate classes.

The school is divided into four stages:
Preschool ; age 6
The junior level ; age 7-9
The intermediate stage ; age 10-12
The senior level ; age 13-15

There are 9 different grades, 10 if you include preschool. Every stage, except preschool, has three grades each. We are currently in the senior level, in the 8:th grade.
There are almost 600 pupils in the entire school. The school itself is devided into many buildings. There are four regular school buildings wich are used for lessons.
We have two gymnasiums where we have physical education.
We've also got a refectory where the pupils and teachers eat lunch. The food is free.
We also have a possibility to eat breakfast before the school starts. You have to pay, but it's very cheap.
All classes except the senior level start at 8.15 am. The senior level classes mostly begin at 8.00 am. Pupils are off around 3 pm.
We also have a youth recreation centre, wich is a place where the youngsters can play some games, like billiards or Playstation 2. But it's only open for the senior level. They can also buy something to eat or drink, but they do not sell candy or something like that. Vasaskolan has a health profile, with many activity days
