Our Town

Lipno has about 16000 citizens. It is located in the central region of Poland. The beginings of Lipno reached early the old Ages and are united with the history of Dobrzyń Land. The earliest historie notice about l.ipno as a town was put in written local priviledge statement in 1349 year. The town received from monarches man;- different priviledges that helped to develop its economy and culture. But after years of prosperity many wars that came through the land slowly destroyed its inheritance. The residents of Lipno went through hard times during November Uprising and the First World War. Until the Second World War the town raised from ruins in means of economic, social and cultural life. Extermination of the people and terror that commited Hitler's army almost totaly destroyed Lipno. After the war the residents again raised foundations of economic and social life.
Our town is famous for several people. Among others we can say about
Pola Negri and
Lech Walesa. Pola Negri - a famous Hollywood star was born here on 31 December 1844. Lech Wałesa (the leader of Solidarity and President of Poland 1990-1995) was born in nearby Popowo and then as a teenager attended a vocational school in Lipno.
